Add a device, select a size (limited by free RAM), choose whether to FAT format it and whether to automount. The only other notable options are setting the default RAM disk configuration and changing the skin for the software interface.

Best Free RAMDisk Software For Windows

Some of the RAMDisk software that I have mentioned here let you create one without any limitation, while some are free versions of paid software and have limitations. Instead of limitations, you are given ample features to make use of these freeware. Define RAMDisk memory and various other parameters as per your requirement and start using any of these software. Go through this carefully crafted list to know more about these software.

Miray RAM Drive is a simple RAMDisk freeware with limited functionality. The free version supports a max disk size of 4 GB and 8GB for 32-bit and 64-bit Windows respectively. If you have a low capacity RAM, the max size of the RAMDisk adjusts according to the size of RAM. The software interface rests in the system tray and can be accessed from there.

ImDisk Virtual Disk Driver is a disk image emulator created by Olof Lagerkvist. It is free and open-source software, and is available in 32- and 64-bit variants. It is digitally signed, which makes it compatible with 64-bit versions of Microsoft Windows without having to be run in Test mode. The 64-bit version has no practical limit to the size of RAM disk that may be created. It is perfect for putting files onto Dolphin Emulator's emulated SD Card.[8]

RAMDisk software which can also mount various CD images formats, like iso, ooo, cue, ccd, nrg, mds, img.[21] The application has two versions, paid and free where the latter allows to create a single ram disk up to 2GB in size.[22]

This software is for personal use only. If you would like to use this software for business/commercial use (or any purpose other than personal use), a commercial license fee and appropriate commercial license is required. The registration and payment of the commercial license fee is supported and made available through our website at -and-services/software/ramdisk by selecting the option for "Commercial Licenses" or by emailing ramdisksales@dataram.com.

However, using widely-available free, open source software (ImDisk (opens in new tab)), system memory (or simply computer memory as it is often called) can be converted into usable storage known as a RAM Disk, essentially turning some of your PC's RAM into a super-fast storage drive.

As a spokesperson for Softperfect (opens in new tab), another popular RAM disk software developer puts it, the best and fastest way is to use a regular RAM disk without Hard Disk Emulation and with an exFAT file system. In our test though, we saw no real difference between exFAT and NTFS.

We will talk about 4 free ramdisk software that let you create a ramdisk on your computer, delete them and even save the information on to the hard drive. Note that some of them would require you to go through a registration process, but that it going to be free.

Ramdisk is a good concept and Ramdisk software let you create Ramdisk on your PC and try it out. Ramdisks can come handy when you want a drive where data can be stored temporarily with faster access time and should perish when you shutdown your computer. Because most of the ramdisk software allows you to save the data on to an image file, you can retrieve the data that existed on your ramdisk. Developers can use a ramdisk to emulate the behavior of an actual hard disk drive, CD/DVD drive or a floppy drive, write to it and make changes without affecting the actual hard disk in any way. However, if all this is actually useful, remains a big question that I am yet to find an answer for.

Nowadays, programs of relatively high size are available as it is required to perform major tasks like animating, video rendering and video editing with precision and accuracy. The software needs to be heavy to handle complex tasks like these quickly and efficiently. After all that, games are the heaviest field of programs, and your PC needs to support the game right away without delay to ensure nest performance. When one of the heavy programs is running, it takes a lot of resources from your PC, and the work efficiency is not as much as you require regarding your hardware. So in this case, you can install one of the RAMDisk facility software which can increase your PCs performance drastically without the need of upgrading your hardware. The software creates a virtual memory from RAM and the program in that memory, are loaded at a relatively high speed of abou2x or 4x times faster. All that is done with just some simple click using the software and your performance gets a jet engine back to it. OUY can count on the software to support you in performing heavy tasks easily and efficiently. The list of some freely available RAMDisk software packages is given below and you and choose whichever you like.

Starwind RAMDisk is a straightforward, high-quality software which lets you create RAMDisks of many sizes. The software is a freeware, and it has no limitation on capacity, but the performance ratings are relatively low as compared to AMD Radeon RAMDisk software. The software is very user-friendly and it just takes some simple click to create a virtual RAMDisk on your PC. If you require a free software which lets you create virtual RAMDisks of any size, you should go for it. The link to download the software is given.

Gizmo Drive is a free software which is primarily used for disk mounting and can be used for RAMDisk creation. The limit is unlimited in his software for RAMDISK Creation, and you can perform many other tasks like drive mounting in this software. The company Ariana Solutions update it regularly, and it supports Microsoft Windows versions from Windows 2000, XP, Server 2003, Vista and 7. You can mount and unmount files from Windows shell as well as Windows CLI (Command Line Interface).

There are many paid and free RAMDisk software for Windows 10 and older versions. You might have heard about Dataram RAMDisk which is available in free and paid options. Here is how you can set up a RAMDisk using this software:

IMDisk is a good, free RAMdisk software on Windows if you want to try it out. Paying alternatives such as Primo RAMdisk gives you better performance, more backup management options and dynamic memory allocation (so you can create a 16GB ram disk, but it will only use 10GB if that's what the VM size is).

This tutorial will show you how to quickly create a RAM disk in any Linux distro (Debian, Ubuntu, Linux, Fedora, Arch Linux, CentOS, etc). Compared to commercial Windows RAM disk software that costs money, Linux can utilize this cool feature 100% free of charge.

Then all left to do is to specify the file system type, RAM disk size, device name and mount it to the above directory. You can see from the screenshot above that I have plenty of free RAM, so I can easily allocate 1GB for my RAM disk. This can be done with the following one-liner. It will be using tmpfs file system and its size is set to 1024MB. myramdisk is the device name I gave to it.

Even the best infrastructure monitoring tools are not enough. If you detect a Windows Server performance issue, you need to be able to quickly inspect system settings and analyze the latest configuration changes to determine the cause of the issue and fix it before business processes suffer. Therefore, a system monitoring tool is also essential. Netwrix Auditor for Windows Server provides complete visibility into your system settings and changes. For example, you can easily see the current state of your system and review all changes that were made to your Windows servers, such as installation of software and hardware and changes to scheduled tasks, services and registry. You can configure alerts to be notified any time there is a suspicious change or series of changes.

Spiceworks Network Monitor is a simple and free server monitoring software for server and network monitoring. It is extremely flexible and scalable, allowing independent thresholds per system or device. Spiceworks Network Monitor is a great solution for more granular monitoring of memory, disk activity and more.

With PAE, the ramdisk indeed uses the RAM above 3 mb, inaccessible to 32-bit Windows 7. So, yes, the "Completely wrong" rant by Anonymous is ... wrong. Once configured, the Gavotte software runs automatically on following boots. I think it runs "outside of" Windows, since it's not running as a process, and I'm pretty sure it's not running as a service, either. Windows 7 still reports 3036 MB of physical memory, so it must be small.

Then I grabbed VSuite Ramdisk free, and make a ramdisk out of that unused 4gb. I put the windows page file, some graphics programs' temp and cache folders there, etc. I've read the windows documentation to get a loose understanding of why XP and programs can "see" the full 8gb, but not use it -- but I really don't care. All I know is that XP is using 4gb, and I'm able to put a bunch of cache and temp stuff on the ramdisk in the "unused" 4gb -- it's nice to think that now it's being used. And I've heard it's good to take that stuff off the main drive when that drive is an ssd -- which mine is.

I have an Athlon II X4 system with 6Gb of ram running WinXP SP3 32 bit. I therefore can not use around 2gb of memory. I tried this, and according to a memory monitor I ran both before and after using the ramdisk util, the RAMdisk is using memory from windows. NOT the unused memory, but the memory that you are usually using for programs etc. 2ff7e9595c
